Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has emerged as the Governor of the Year in Pink Awards 2022.
The ceremony was held at the weekend at Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The governor was given the award in recognition of his commitment to transforming Lagos into a mega city.
Information and Strategy Commissioner Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, who represented the governor, said Sanwo-Olu loved anything that would make people know that Lagos was the entertainment and excellent hub of Nigeria.
“The governor would have loved to be present at the ceremony, but had to attend to other urgent matters. He believes this is a very good event that he must identify with the spirit of excellence Lagos is known for. This is why he said I should come here. He loves anything that makes Lagos not only the centre of excellence, but also that Lagos rewards excellence.
“In that spirit, I will like to congratulate the initiator of this initiative, Veronica Okeh, for doing this. She has done this for eight years and it is worthy of recommendation. The awardees are worthy Lagosians and Nigerians. They can stand on their own anywhere in the world,” he said.
Omotoso added that the award was coming at a significant time in the history of Lagos State.
Okei, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of La Veronica Magazine and Pink Awards, expressed gratitude about the turnout and success of the event.
The award recipients include Director General, Dr. Alex Okoh, for Public Administration of the Year, Chairman, Bariga Local Council Development Authority, David Alabi, for Nigeria’s Most Outstanding Local Government Chairman; Mr. Chuddy Ugorji for Business Icon of the year; Channels’ Media Group for Television of the Year.
Other recipients include Dr. Chinwe Ikpe for Best Mentorship awards; CEO EE-JEY Fashion for Fashion Icon of the year; MD/CEO of Twin Image Concept, Starguyz for Best Entertainment Icon of the Year and Nollywood actress, Ameh Lucy, for Best Actress of the Year.
